The PURPOSE of the Web and Software Technology (WeST) R&D center is to provide technical supports for informationization software projects and related industries which are significant for the national economy and the sustainable development of the society based on the national strategy requirements and the national economic development. Meanwhile, the center will closely rely on the development of Software Engineering, Database technology, Video technology and Web Information Processing technology, and will try to find the new subjects during the development.

The center's STRATEGY is to serve the construction of China's informationization infrastructure and the development of the information industry, emphasize on sustainable development, communicate and collaborate with international partners, and develop large-scale support software and system with independent intellective property right for serving China’s informationization construction.

The DISCIPLINES include WEB information technology, software engineering, database technology, digital content management in computer software and theory.

The R&D domains focus on 3D,namely Digital Government (DG), Digital Library (DL), Digital Entertainment (DE). The detail research fields include strategic planning and top level design of government information, performance and business process modeling, component library of business services, business information and resource management ,information retrieval and filtering, personalized services, digital copyright management, massive digital resource management, inspection platform of online game, online game architecture design with high scalability, animation technology and game algorithm ,intelligent game engine and so on。
